This front page has been changed temporarily in honour and memory of Alan McInerney who sadly passed away recently.

Alan McInerney (Macca) was not an ex-pupil of the Cardinal Vaughan School but was as much an Old Vaughanian as anyone who has ever played for the Club.

Sadly Macca passed away recently leaving a wife, Jo, and a young child, Oliver.

He will be remembered at OVFC for his quick wit, his infectious personality and for always having a smile on his face. He was a great footballer, Captain and colleague. He enriched our lives and will be sadly, sadly missed.

DINNER & DANCE IN MEMORY OF MACCA

This year’s D&D was used as an opportunity to remember Macca and to raise money for his family.

The dinner was held at The Copthorne Tara Hotel in Scarsdale Place, Kensington, London W8 5SR on Saturday 28 April 2012

For a report on the evening please see here

FUNERAL

Macca’s funeral on Tuesday 13 March was attended by many hundreds of people - there were as many people outside the church and Crematorium as there were packed inside !

Since so many people missed the service we have copied the Order of Service here and Macca’s Eulogy here

As requested, many people were wearing a yellow daffodil  - the symbol for Marie Curie Cancer Care - and some held sunflowers which were later laid on Macca’s coffin.

The reception afterwards at St Mary's School (an important part of Alan’s life) was filled with people who were both sad to see him go but also happy to have been part of his life.

Macca would have been very happy to have seen so many old friends and his wife Jo can be very proud of the positive influence he had on so many people.

A RAFFLE and an AUCTION were held on the night of the D&D to raise money for Macca’s family.

The raffle was very well supported. The raffle prizes were £150, £75 & £50 and were won by guests at the dinner. Gerry Carberry generously donated his prize to the McInerney fund.

The auction had some splendid items all of which can be viewed here AUCTION BOOKLET. Bidding was fast and furious and the generosity of the audience and pre-dinner bidders meant that over £9,000 was raised.

OVFC would like to thank everyone who bought or sold raffle tickets and the donators of auction items and the successful bidders for making the auction so successful (see here for a full list of the items, the donators, the final bid and the successful bidder). Without naming names, some people paid money for items and then re-donated them to the auction and one person bid successfully on an item and then, in addition, donated a large sum to the McInerney pot !!

In total, after our hotel, meal and ancillary costs, the D&D raised over £10,000. A cheque for this amount will be presented to Jo and Oliver McInerney by our Chairman, Dermot Collins.

It is testimony to our Club, our members, Alan McInerney’s family and friends and Alan himself that such a large sum was obtained.

We are still collecting money and reconciling our hotel and meal etc costs. Once this is done we will publish the total amount raised for Jo McInerney in this box !
